High Point Museum/Historical Park - 1859 E. Lexington Ave (885-6859). Features furniture, pottery, communication, transportation, and military artifacts as well as changing exhibits. Park contains 1786 Haley House (on National Register of Historic Places), and mid-1700's Blacksmith Shop and Weaving House. Museum open Tues-Sat 10-4:30, Sun 1-4:30. Guided group tours by reservation. FREE.

Furniture Discovery Center - 101 W Green Dr (887-3876). Museum simulating a modern furniture factory illustrating how furniture is manufactured. Also famous miniature bedrooms, Hall of Fame, a talking tree, and other special exhibits. Educational, hands-on exhibits appeal to visitors of all ages. Open Mon.-Sat 10-5, Sun 1-5. Closed Mondays and holidays in winter. Small Admission.

Angela Peterson Doll & Miniature Museum - 101 W. Green Dr (885-3655). Museum featuring over 1600 dolls, costumes, miniatures, doll houses; lifelong collection of one woman, and South's largest doll museum. Also special exhibit of over 120 Shirley Temple Dolls. Open Mon-Sat 10-5, Sun 1-5. Closed Mondays and holidays in winter. Small admission.

Furniture Showroom Tours For Groups - Tours of furniture manufacturer's market showroom building available to GROUPS ONLY of 15 or more. Reservations must be made in advance with the Visitors Bureau (910-884-5255). Call Tourism Director. Not available weekends or for 6-week periods in April and October during International Home Furnishings Market. Admission.

Theatre Art Galleries - 220 E. Commerce Ave in the High Point Theatre building. (887-3415). Changing art shows in three galleries. Open Mon-Fri 12-5, weekends by reservation. Closed part of April and October. FREE.

Piedmont Environmental Center - 1220 Penny Road. (883-8531). 375 acres of hiking trails adjacent to City Lake, nature preserve, nature store, small animal exhibits, also access to 6 mile Greenway Trail. Open Mon-Sat 8:30-5, Sun 1-5. FREE.

Mendenhall Plantation -603 W Main Street near City Lake Park in Jamestown (454-3819). Early 19th Century Quaker plantation on historic register. Open Fri-Sat 10-4, Sun 2-4. Other times by reservation. Small admission.

The Furniture Library - 1009 N Main St (883-4011). World's largest collection of books on history of furniture. Hours: Mon-Fri 9-12, 1-5. Special tours by appointment. FREE.

Castle McCulloch - 6000 Kersey Valley Rd., Jamestown. Main gate on Kivett Drive. (887-4383). 19th Century English castle built as gold refinery, restored as a catering and banquet hall. Large grounds with Tilt Yard for special events. Mon-Fri 9-5, Sat 9-1.

High Point Theatre - 220 E Commerce Ave (Box Office: 887-3001). Modern 1000- seat theatre with year-round concerts, plays, events. Home to N.C. Shakespeare Festival August thru October.

High Point University - 933 Montlieu Ave (841-9000). Liberal Arts, co-ed private university founded in 1924. Methodist sponsored. Only school in U.S. offering degree in home furnishings marketing.

North Carolina Shakespeare Festival - (841-2273). Headquartered in High Point, performs August through October and December at High Point Theatre. Professional troupe presenting classic and contemporary plays during season. Discount for groups and tours.

World's Largest Chest of Drawers - 508 Hamilton St. Building shaped like huge chest of drawers built in 1926 to call attention to High Point as the "Home Furnishings Capital of the World". Restored as a 18th century dresser and is home of the High Point Jaycees.

Museum of Old Domestic Life - 555 E. Springfield Rd (882-3054/861-5337). Quaker museum in 1858 Springfield Meeting House. Tours by appointment only.

Oak Hollow Mall - 921 Eastchester Drive, (910)886-6255. High Point's newest shopping experience features over 90 exciting specialty and department stores, one-of-kind boutiques, and diverse resturants.
